Spiritual Warfare Definition:
The ongoing battle fought between good and evil, with the devil and his demons seeking to lead
people away from God through temptation and sin.
Genesis 3:1-5
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.
He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”
2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but
God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall
you touch it, lest you die.’” 4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For
God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing
good and evil.”
1. Satan is a liar who questions God
Ezekiel 28: 12-17
12 “Son of man, raise a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and say to him, Thus says the
Lord God:
“You were the signet of perfection,
full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden, the garden of God;
every precious stone was your covering…
15 You were blameless in your ways
from the day you were created,
till unrighteousness was found in you.
16 In the abundance of your trade
you were filled with violence in your midst, and you sinned;
so I cast you as a profane thing from the mountain of God,
and I destroyed you, O guardian cherub,
from the midst of the stones of fire.
Isaiah 14:12-14
12 “How you are fallen from heaven,
O Day Star, son of Dawn!
How you are cut down to the ground,
you who laid the nations low!
13 You said in your heart,
‘I will ascend to heaven;
above the stars of God
I will set my throne on high;
I will sit on the mount of assembly
in the far reaches of the north;

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.’

Genesis 3: 5-7
5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,
knowing good and evil.”
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes,
and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also
gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both were
opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made
themselves loincloths.
2. Satan is a tempter who offers something he cannot give
1 John 2: 15-17
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the
Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of
the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is
passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

Adam and Eve bought into the lie that they could be like God…
That they could step outside the bounds of God’s plan…and do whatever they wanted.

Genesis 3: 20-24
20 The man called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. 21 And
the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.
22 Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and
evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live
forever—” 23 therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground
from which he was taken. 24 He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he
placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of
life.
3. Satan is a murderer who tries to destroy our relationship with God
ONE BIG IDEA:
The Devil is deceitful and tricky. You can be victorious by fleeing sin and building your
relationship with the Lord.
